Fishy Tales #2

21/11/09 Sat.
I was questioning whether we were able to get out on Saturday as the Southerly gale raged all night on Friday! As it turned out, the wind eased and the seas were pretty good all things considered. We met James and freinds at the wharf and set off. I decided that Nth Bondi was the best choice as last week this area fished well. As we approached Nth Bondi the sounder came alive with fish peaks all over the grounds in 42 mtr depth and as a bonus NO JACKET SHOWS on the sounder. The current was abit weird pushing us in a WSW direction into the light Southerly wind.... this makes fishing abit complex as the lines drag down the side of the boat instead of staying straight out in front. So we played "drop and move down" rotating the lads as one brings up a line they move up and drop behind the rest so NOT to tangle with the others. It worked pretty well as nice Flathead, Morwong, Pigfish and Snapper were coming up. Most of the fish were taking lrg Blue tail prawns and Pilli cubes... So for something different I deployed the Fishfinder plakky Squidgey Rig with a "Fishbites" 5" Jerk Shad on it as I was out of my favorite 140mm Squidgey Wrigglers I thought I would give these a try.... and Yibbadah...Yibbadah..... check it out! Nice Red.... this rig rules!... well done lads!

As a charter boat skipper, What runs through your mind at 5:30 in the morning when your introduced to 10 lads with names like, Bush, Bud, Tripper and so on? ahhhh.... Yep this is gonna be a beauty.....this bunch were "harrrd lads".... Well, I was wrong these blokes were tops! what a great bunch. They were out here for one thing, FISHIN! so off we went. Back to the Bondi grounds we were at yesterday but this time fished hard and with some heart I thought would bring out the best in this spot! We arrive and the conditions were perfect (this helped too) I admit. A lite N/E breeze, 21.9 deg water and a trickle of current from the Nth... this is perfect too see what potential this ground has to offer. Morwong, Flathead, Snapper, Pigfish, Salmon and lots of em! all the lads caught a good spread of fish during the day and climaxed with 2 top Salmon.... all in all a good 40 - 50 kgs of mixed fish. Awsome stuff!

Saturday morning, fine weather and calm seas we met our group at Mosman and set off to Nth Bondi as the fishing over those grounds has not let us down for the past couple of trips. We arrive and set up for the first drift, The current is pushing down from the nth lightly and the temp is 21.9 deg as before but the water is abit greenish in colour.... It took awhile to get things going but we persisted and the fish started to come in one by one Morwong, Flatties, Pigies, Six spine jackets and Snapper although mostly small ones. It seemed like the better reds just didnt want to play today just platers....Most of the fish came in on Bluetail Prawns and Pillies. All in all a good feed of fish as you can see.. Well done lads!
